Deloney (Thomas). - Écrivain né à Londres vers 1543, mort vers 1600. Il obtint une réputation considérable par ses ballades dont beaucoup sont devenues populaires. Nous nous contenterons de citer : The Kentishmen with long Tales, the Drowning of Henry I's Children, the Dutchess of Suffolk's calamity, Henry II crowning his Son king, réunies avec d'autres portant également sur des sujets historiques, sous le titre de Strange Histories (1607, réimp. en 1841). II a écrit aussi en prose des oeuvres facétieuses : The Gentle Craft, a worth in praise of shoemakers (1597); the Pleasant History of John Winchcomb, the famous and worthy Clothier of England (1619, 8e éd.); Thomas of Reading, or the six worthy yeomen of the west (1612), etc. (R.
