Châteaubriant,
Brientii castellum. - Commune du département de la Loire-Atlantique,
sur la Chère, à 60 kilomètres au Nord de Nantes; 12
000 habitants. Cette ville tire son nom d'un château
construit vers 1515 par Brient, comte de Penthièvre ,
et a donné son nom aux comtes de Châteaubriant. Henri
II y rendit en 1551 un édit contre les Protestants . |
